Ben is a piano tuner and concert technician covering the East Midlands.
Initially educated at St. Peters Primary School and The Brunts Grammar School, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Ben went on to college in Newark, Nottinghamshire to study Piano Tuning, Maintenance and Repairs for 3 years full time. Whilst there, he gained a City and Guilds qualification in Stringed Keyboard Instrument Manufacture.
After employment in Milton Keynes, Luxembourg and Cambridge, the opportunity of starting a business in his hometown arose in 1981. Bluthner Pianos Ltd of London presented the possibility of servicing their tuning connection in the East Midlands in 1984. An application and assessment were successful and the long and fruitful relationship continues to this day, which among other things involves the after sales tuning for Harrods.
The Pianoforte Tuners Association entrance test was also successfully undertaken in 1984. Having served on the Executive Council for several years and being involved as an examiner, a member of the Test Sub committee and occasional convention lecturer, Ben has taken a less active role over recent years, but still values his membership and appreciates the work the PTA does.
A period of lecturing in Piano Tuning at Newark and Sherwood College, on a part time basis, between 1990-1992 was both enjoyable and successful (a student winning the national David Marks Tuning Cup) it became obvious that the joys of the open road were more suited than the confines of the UK Further Education system.
Ben covers the East Midlands for the Steinway Tuning department.
Apart from his work, Ben enjoys several sports (skiing, water-skiing, walking) and has in the past completed several half and two full marathons. Motorcycling is still a keen interest as is his love of good food and fine wine.
